As a shopper you will be offered in-store credit cards. These are different than member cards or basic reward cards. The in-store credit cards require a credit check and what you do with them will directly affect your credit score. These cards, although they seem like a great way for you to get your Dereon clothing, are not the smartest move you can make.

If you already have a credit card then there is no reason at all for you to even consider doing your shopping with a department store card. The hook to these popular cards is they offer you an initial discount to try the card. The discount is enticing but the price you pay on your credit report is not worth it. The more active credit you have the worse it looks to potential lenders for houses or cars. You want to look responsible with your credit. Taking out credit you do not need or cannot necessarily afford is not your best option.

Shopping is fun as long as you steer clear of the store credit. There is just no reason for you to use it.

The all-purpose historical engagement ring wasn’t always like that!

The fact is the very first ‘engagement ring’ didn’t have any diamonds or gemstones in it at all. Believe it or not. Try to find one of those kinds of engagement rings in a Robbins Brothers store — definitely not on a list of your typical ring right?

While all engagement rings today still strongly exemplify the true meaning of marriage at its core, back in the day an engagement ring never had the sparkles. Instead, silver and gold was used to craft a type of ring designed to look like a ‘knot.’ Hence the term, “tie the knot.” The idea was that the design could actually be separates into two different rings; but you can put them together to better symbolize the meaning of marriage.

They called it a Love Knot.

There’s even more tradition behind it: the idea was that the Love Knot would be separated upon the day of engagement and worn by both the bride and groom as a symbol of their promise up until the day of marriage where the two separate rings would then be ‘united’ and worn by the bride. Clever idea, right?

That’s marriage for you — still, to this day, a beautiful tradition. Always remember the heart of it. It exists in every engagement ring to this day.
