Unless you are lucky enough to live in one of the few places in the world that experience little seasonal change, you must have a seasonal wardrobe. While this applies primarily to those who live in colder climates where a summer and a winter wardrobe are essential, anyone with seasonal changes can build a seasonal wardrobe. The experience doesn’t have to be expensive or confusing, if you follow a few simple rules.

  1. Fashion changes, but the classics remain the same: Build your basic seasonal wardrobe by purchasing classic pieces for each season. You will still be able to round out the wardrobe with current pieces, but by building a foundation wardrobe, you will save yourself a lot of time and money at the start of each new season.
  2. Storage matters: Remember that to keep your seasonal wardrobe fresh looking, you must store it properly during the off months. If you are lucky enough to own a cedar chest or closet, use it. If you do not, invest in sturdy totes, put clothing away clean and neatly folded, and store the totes in a dry, cool place. It is a great idea to create an inventory so you will know what you have.
  3. Bargain shop: The easiest way to save money on your seasonal wardrobe is to buy pieces in the off-season. Sales on winter clothing follow winter, so stock up on essentials and store them for the next year.

Having seasonal wardrobes will make sure you are always stylish and always properly dressed for the weather, so it is a good investment of time and money.
